Rick Weigand is the Director of the Emergency Medical Service department. He began his career with Highlands County as an Emergency Medical Technician in 1976. He has worked as a Paramedic, Shift Supervisor, and was promoted to Director in 1985.
Rick's duties include coordination of three 24-hour shifts that provide service to all residents and visitors of the County. Service is provided from six stations: Avon Park, Sebring Ridge, Sebring Downtown, Sebring Main, Lake Placid and Tomoka station in Lake Placid. The administrative section is responsible for training, quality assurance, budget preparation, billing and collections for the department. The training department is also responsible for providing training and quality review of the Automatic External Defibrillator program for the various County and city fire departments.
