The Parks and Recreation Department strives to protect and maintain Highlands County's outstanding natural and scenic resources as well as provide active recreational facilities for the public.  The Department, formed in the 1990's, has in its inventory, key facilities such as the Hammock Trail, the Lincoln Heights and Desoto City ballfields, the Preserve of Sun n' Lakes, H.L.Bishop Park, R.K. Butler Campground, and the Windy Point Park.  Plans are in progress for the development of a large multi-field sports complex which will include softball, soccer and football amenities for all agencies.
