Shall register with the Highlands County Building Department prior to contracting work to be performed in Highlands County.

Contractors are designated in the following categories:  General, Building, Residential, Sheet Metal, Roofing, Class A, B, C, Air-Conditioning, Mechanical, Commercial Pool/Spa, Residential Pool/Spa, Swimming Pool/Spa Servicing, Plumbing, Electrical, Alarm System, Solar, Underground Utility/Excavation, Pollutant Storage, as defined in Chapter 489 of the Florida Statutes.

Speciality Contractors are designated in the following categories:  Aluminum, Aluminum/Concrete, Cabinet Installer, Carpentry/Framing, Concrete Forming & Placing, Concrete Placing and Finishing, Demolition, Drywall/Stucco/Plaster/Lath, Duct Installer, Fence Installer, Garage Door Installer, House Moving, Insulation, Irrigation Sprinkler, Low Voltage Electrical, Marine, Masonry/Block, Masonry/Concrete, Painting, Paving, Pressure Cleaners(roofs), Sign, Solar Heater, Structural Steel, Stucco, Tile and Marble Contractors.

Handypersons may perform work of a casual, minor or inconsequential nature in the categories of work described in Part I of Chapter 489, Florida Statutes, for which a building permit is not required, in which the aggregate price for labor, materials, and all other items is less than $1,000.00 for the purpose of evading this limitation or Part I of Chapter 489, Florida Statutes.  Except as allowed by this paragraph, a handyperson shall not perform any work in the categories listed above.
