, Dick Gorman graduated from St. Peter’s Academy in
Saratoga
in 1961. He attended
Albany
Junior College
and was awarded his Associate Degree in Science degree. Dick has worked for the American Bridge Company, a division of US Steel, as an erecting crew foreman and was also employed by Bethlehem Steel Erectors.
In 1969, Dick went to work for General Motors Corporation as a dealer wholesaler finance representative. GM transferred him to
Vermont
where he settled in the town of
St. Johnsbury
, but his
New York City
style didn’t mesh well with the rural culture of St. Johnsbury and he resigned his post in 1970 with GM to open his own business: Rapid Rubbish Removal.
For 28 years Dick owned and operated his business eventually expanding operations throughout
Vermont
,
New Hampshire
,
Southern Maine
, and upstate
New York
. By the time he sold his company he owned 19 trucks and employed 31 people.
In 1998, he moved to Sebring and worked as a handyman for a local realtor. He also drove a tour bus for Annett Bus Lines and trained other drivers. He came to work for
Highlands
County
on
July 10, 2002
as Landfill Operations Manger and is now the interim Landfill Manager. When time permit, Dick enjoys stock car racing and has been both an owner and driver. He lives in Sebring with his wife of 16 years, Laura, and their dog, Honey.
