The Director of the Department of Solid Waste Management has oversight responsibility for three areas; Keep Highlands County Beautiful (KHCB) programs, county wide recycling activities and the landfill operation. KHCB programs are completed with guidance from the KHCB advisory board, are primarily grant funded and include such things as combating illegal waste dumping and beautification projects throughout the county. Skipper Road
recycling facility and involve public education, collection, processing and marketing of recyclable waste plus collection of various hazardous wastes. Landfill operations at the 987 acre Highlands County Solid Waste Management Center on Arbuckle Creek Road include the operations of a double lined Class I Landfill and a C&D Waste Landfill plus collection and processing of other waste materials. Ken has an annual operating budget of approximately $8 million and two dedicated managers with twenty five hard working staff members who are all eager to better serve the citizens of

County
. Additionally, Ken has some general oversight responsibilities of the contracted franchised collection of residential and commercial waste in the unincorporated areas of the County.
