In 1976, Bruce Van Jaarsveld began his 23 year career with
Highlands
County
as an equipment operator. After receiving a promotion, Bruce became the first Safety Supervisor in
Highlands
County
. He is responsible for establishing the Highway Safety program that includes safety training and overseeing the county’s signs and signals. Later, Bruce was promoted again, this time to Road Supervisor where he served for a decade before he was appointed as the
Highlands County Road
and Bridge Superintendent. His current duties include overseeing the Road and Bridge Department, mowing crews, vehicle maintenance, and the county-owned shell pit operation in
Charlotte
County
.
